Have a Road King Custom, bought it in July of last year and absolutely love it. since the day I brought it home though there is an annoying squeek from the front brakes as I come to a stop. I have had my local dealership try to stop this squeeling but to no avail. They suggest the floating discs but ofcourse they are 130.00 per. I clean them reglarly with brake cleaner and I think they said they tried to realign my forks. It seems to me that this problem should be covered under warranty but I am told the brakes work.... bla bla bla...I hate pulling up to an intersection and sounding like a squeeling beater at the lights. Any great Ideas??
The reason I ask is this. I recently (two weeks ago) put chrome forks on the front of my bike. I had to pull the front wheel to do that. After I put it all back together, I had a lower pitched squeal...someone on the forum told me that it was because my brakes were no longer seated properly on my caliper, and that it would go away. It nearly has...I would be surprised if I heard it tomorrow when I ride to work.
If it's a high pitched squeal, that usually comes from where the piston is hitting the pad. Have you taken them a part and put silicon on the caliper where it meets the pad?
Try a couple of squirts of disc brake spray. It will at least make it tolerable enough for a while while the pad re-seats itself. Had the same with my 01 RK, it works but new pads are inevitable!
A lot of H-D owners complain about squealing/noisy brakes.
The floating rotors help a lot, as well as providing better stopping.
The other thing that works is a change of pads from H-D OEM.
I've been using Lyndall pads with great success. http://www.lyndallracingbrakes.com/home.htm
EBC is another good alternative to OEM pads.
I have the same problem. I changed the pads and the squeeling is still there.. I've cleaned and re-set the pads, but it returned. The high pitched squeel is only at very slow speed, just prior to stoping.

The pads are origional, I have had HD clean them when it was serviced and it seemed to work for like a day, I appreciate the many thoughts on this, It is a high pitched screech just before I stop. It sounds like the floating rotors are the way to go. Thanks again for all the help!
