I just got home from the paint store. $301 for 1 quart of base coat, 1 quart of color coat, and 2 quarts of clear coat. Glad I'm just painting a motorcycle, enough paint for a car would be scary expensive!
I know what you mean. I bought 1 pint of Pearl Black, 1 qt of reducer, 1 qt of clear, & 1 pint of hardener all PPG products. $186 & change just to have a tour pak to match my Street Glide. Everyone said they are expensive but good.
I just painted my fairing, I used rattle cans, two cans of color, one can primer, two cans clear, I think the total cost came to like $70.00, still have paint left over.

What color? Reds are pretty expensive IIRC, as are pearls and metallics.
funny the fairing picture of the rattle can paint job is out of focus. But I bet it looks as good as my PPG paint job. They say you get smarter from your mistakes , But I don't feel any smarter. Don over and out>>>

Not sure I get the base/color coat? You spraying candy or are you saying base coat as in sealer? Good luck with your project.
