I want to install an oil cooler. Should i go with the HD cooler or an aftermarket? 2010 streetglide.

Can't go wrong with either. Personally, I prefer the HD unit.

If you buy an oil temp gauge you will find you need neither.

Default Oil Cooler

I installed an oil cooler on my new Harley 60 miles after purchase, in concert with a fresh oil and filter change! Since these engines run so hot, I believe that anything one can do to help cool them down is a big help.

Back to the question. I researched a couple of oil coolers before I took delivery of my '09 in June and selected the H-D oil cooler because it is thermostatically controlled, which negates having to put a cover on it during lower temps. In addition,. it fits perfectly and does not leak! I don't think you would be disappointed with the H-D unit.

I went with the HD. Worked well. Lots of 100+ degree days here in the summer. No worries. I ride pretty much every day. It really reduces the heat coming onto your legs. Doesn't help in traffic except you are starting the heating process at a little lower temp. It cools down quicker once you are moving. Heat management only kicked in a couple of times last summer.

Also make sure the cooler you choose is turbulated... has tiny fins inside the cooling tubes to stir up the oil as if travels through the tubes so more of the hot oil comes in contact with the tubes, not just the oil closest to them.

I ride a 93" Shovel and allways had a cooler on that one. Then a 2007 Road glide which did 62000 so far, many long trips with the head cook and a KwikKamp trailer.Summer and winter mostly in the Western States, 19 States this year. The hottest the oil ever got is 220F and I do have a gauge. It uses the harley cooler with the thermostatic valve and imho it is a must if you 2up in hot weather or tow. I mostly go a little fast as 80mph at 3000 rpm is realy the sweet spot on this bike.
Works for me.

I wasnt born in Texas but I came here as soon as I could.
