Default Should I dyno tune?

2008 Roadking. 19,000 Miles. Stage one, V&H slip-ons, Race tuner.
I have never dyno tuned my bike. What does a dyno tune do for a bike? Should I? If so what will I gain?

I put new SE pipes and an SE air cleaner on my 09 ultra. I had the dealer do the Harley remap. The bike ran better than stock, but the rear cylinder was still pretty hot. I took it to a local motorcycle shop with a motorcycle dynamometer. WHAT A DIFFERENCE !!!!!

The Harley remap doesn't adjust timing enough or at all. This guy was brilliant. After he remapped my bike I got 8 more hp, more torque. Hp and torque maxed out at a much lower rpm than stock, and the rear cylinder is much cooler. The bike runs sooooo much better. I was willing to ad a cam if necessary but so far I am sticking with what I've got. The only down side is I had to purchase the Screamin Eagle Super Tuner. Unfortunately the tuner syncs to the vin or your bike so you can't use anyone else's. The dyno remap cost $200.

The fuel module add-ons "fool" the computer on the bike. IMHO, remapping is the the better, more reliable way to go. Also remapping on the Dyno is the best was to find out how your exact set up is working. $200 is well worth the time and effort if the tuner knows what they are doing.

Regards,

Stew

p.s. The screaming eagle tuner and software can be used over and over again for the life of your bike

If it runs good ,why spend the money.

Had the SERT,SE slip on,SE/AC put on at the 1K service,no dyno. The bike ran great up to the 30000mile mark when I did the 95.
It also was averaging 42 mpg.I did not think it would be worth the hundreds of dollars for a dyno.

With just a stage 1 setup, a dyno is really a waste of money. As long as you have a good basemap, you should be fine. But if you have the extra $400 or so for the dyno, then do it..........your bike will run better after a good dyno tune from a good tuner.

Stage 1 with the dealer download.... bike ran hot, stumbled, and crackled and popped like a bowl of Rice Krispies. Stage 1 with a TTS Mastertune and a dyno tune from a reputable tuner.... Bike ran cool, picked up around 5 hp & ft-lbs at the peak, but the numbers were up as much as 10 lower in the curve, and ran smooth as silk.

Your bike, your money, but If you want the most you can get out of your combination, the dyno's the only way to go.

I had the stage I with the vance & hines pipes then I added the cams with the stage II map. It ran OK but it sounded like the motor was beating itself to death. Bought the SEPRT and had the dyno done and it runs a lot smoother, I think that it was able to the air fuel mixture correct without the guess work on the standard maps.

I definitely would not bother dynoing a stage 1 bike.

When you say race tuner I assume you mean the SE race tuner??

If so I would reccomend buying the cables and 2010 software for your SEPRT and using the autotune feature. It has transformed my bike at part throttle which is what really counts (for me anyhow). Roll on and part throttle performance is streets ahead of the what the dyno tuning guys managed to acheive.

You need to be a little computer savvy, and understand a bit about basic engine tuning but remember to save your original tune so you can go back if things dont improve.

Also the software comes with canned maps for a bunch of different mods, odds are that there will be one that is your bike...

I am from Atlanta. I had Stone Mountain H.D. install race tuner. They didn't dyno bike, only basic map.
They say they don't have a working dyno machine. How can that be? I went back to get it re-mapped because they only did the default install. It's better now. I don't mind getting a dyno if I will gain from it. I'm really happy with performance, I just didn't know if a dyno would help even more. My independent dyno guy is in Sugar Hill.
Thanks for all the replies.
