Default Cam Upgrade

Hey Guy & Girls. This is my first post on the forum, I have been a "member" for over a year and I am on the site pretty much every day reading up. I finally have a question that I don't think has already been answered (i think?). After reading the 1,000 posts about the SE-255s, I was able to pick up a CVO-255s for about $180 on ebay and I am currently rounding up all the extras to complete the swap. I have a couple of questions before I proceed that I was hoping you all could answer.

I have a 2009 Street Glide w/ 9,500 miles on it, Fuelmoto Power Package w/ the Comp Baffles.

First question: Am I missing anything from the list below as far as parts to complete the swap? I am trying to pull everything together so I can install the new cams over christmas/new years.

-CVO-255 Cams
-SCREAMIN’ EAGLE PRO PERFECT FIT PUSHRODS (Part#18400-03)
-Inner Cam Bearings (Part#0924-0107 from the following website: http://www.houseofharley.com/eshoppr...__BUSHINGS.htm)
-Cam Installation Kit (Part#17045-99C)
-Innering Cam Bearing Tool from iclick's post
-Cam Locking Tool (Part#94076-09)
-I have decided to keep the original tappets
-I also received an updated map from Jamie that should work with the new cams (and plan to purchase the autotune as well)

Second Question: The service manager at my local dealer said to go with the perfect fit pushrods if I was not overly concerned with the additional amount of time to complete the swap. What are your opinions on the Perfect Fit Pushrods?

Any help on the above would be greatly appreciated! I am putting an order into Chicago HD and want to make sure I have everything prior to placing the order. Thanks in advance!

Sadist112,

Can you shoot me your final list when you get the job completed. I am about to start gathering all the parts / tools, like you, and would love to get a complete list. I would also like to know the total cost if you don't mind. I have a Daytona tuner now, but will probably be switching to the Fuel Moto tuner.

Thanks,

Scott

Actually post it here if you don't mind, I just acquired the cams and am also putting the parts list together so what you come up with will help alot. I think you'll find several guys here that are also going this same route and this would help them all.

I'm planning on going with the adjustable pushrods just so I don't have to crack open the rocker boxes. I was looking at the right size rods but figured that seeing as they are the same length as stock for this cam I would either reuse the existing or change to adjustable's.

1. Beer
2. Blue Locktite

-Cam Installation Kit (Part#17045-99C)
About 98% of the junk in this kit will not be used. I would part it out and save money. You'll need:

12 - Pushrod-tube o-rings (probably in pushrod kit).
2 - Cam-plate o-rings
1 - Cam-cover (nosecone) gasket.

You may also need a corrected spacer to level the outer gears, but you won't know which one 'til you re-assemble. I didn't need anything except the stock spacer, but UltraCla$$ic needed something different. I would pick that up as needed from the HD dealer after checking that they have a good supply of them. Or, just buy the kit (25928-06) for $9.

-Cam Locking Tool (Part#94076-09)
Not really needed. Have someone hold the rear brake in gear while torquing the bolts.

Are you aware that these will still require you to remove the rocker covers? They are not the easy-install type! If you want to remove the rocker covers just use the stockers instead, or buy the tapered adjustables (18404-08) to eliminate the hassle.

Call them CVO 255 or SE 255. Check out at least these two links:

Besides the tools all you need are the bearings you listed,
2 11301 o-rings,
1 25244-99A cam cover gasket and
2 18635-99B Lifter block gaskets

DO NOT put 9500 mile lifters on a used cam out of another motor, your odds of one taking the other out are HUGE and not worth the price of a set of lifters.

Use the adjusables to be sure that lifter preload is exact and also not have to go into the rocker boxes. O-rings for the push rod tudes come with the adjustables.

Wow finally got some hits in this post...

So far I went with the following from Chicago HD:

Quick Install Adjustable SE Pushrod Kit:
1 x 17997-99A $117.56
Timekin Inner Bearings:
2 x 0924-0107 $17.92
Cam Install Kit:
1 x 17045-99C $78.36
Exhaust Gasket:
1 x 17048-98 $6.36
Cam Locking Tool:
1 x 94076-09 $27.96
Retention Kit:
1 x 25566-06 $4.12

I also ordered the inner bearing removal & install kit from Gary $93 (actually ordered this past Friday came yesterday now that is service!) Anyone in the Philly area doing the install shoot me a PM and I'll let you borrow the install kit for a six pack of Sierra Nevada.

I decided on the adjustable pushrods not to save time but because if there is any additional noise it will drive me nuts and I'll have wished I would have just gotten the adjustable pushrods in the first place.

Now what's the general consensus on lifters? I can pick up all four "b" lifters from Chicago HD for $23.98 each (Part# 18538-99B)

Oh I also just bought a fliphd camcorder so I'll probably be making a video of the entire install, I plan to complete the install the week of the 12/21 so if anyone wants to view the video for reference I'll shoot you the youtube clip. Although my disclosure is that I am in no way a experienced Harley mechanic, but everyone has to start somewhere...
