Stereo issue - 2009 SG
I have a strange stereo issue going on. I have the stock stereo in my SG with Hogtunes speakers in the fairing and a set of Hogtunes speakers in the lowers run by an amp. The amp does not power the fairing speakers.
Periodically, the sound will just stop. The stereo does not shut off and a cd will keep running, but there is no sound. If I turn off the stereo and turn it back on, it is fine. Then 5-10 minutes later, the same thing happens.
Has anybody heard of this issue before?

This is a on going problem. I have an 09 sg and had the same problem. Take in to dealer and they should replace. I have hog-wired amp and speakers and had to unhook from radio and put stock speakers back in. And still had problem. So they replaced hopefully your still under warranty.theres been alot of talk about this.
Bluzmn,
Same exact set up...same exact problem. The dealer will send out your radio and maybe replace it with a new or reconditioned HK radio.
It's the audio board solder joint that vibrates loose. So if you give it to the dealer you really have no guarentee your next radio isnt going to do the same thing.
The issue starts when HK runs the boards through it's solder bath. SOME of the radios dont get a good bath...AND vibrations then knock the solder joint out.
For peace of mind I took my radio out myself and brought it to Iron Cross Audio. Here is why:
1) The turn around time is like 2 days. I actually had mine back the next day.
2) They not only repair it, they re-enforce the board with a modification to prevent future vibration related issues.
3) They are a bunch of former Hardon Kardon tech employees so they "KNOW" what they are doing..
4) I had MY NEW RADIO back in my bike and done with this issue inside of 48 hours.
Downside: If there is any....Your gonna Pay (I think it was $250.00).
Upside: You dont have to worry about "down time", you dont have to worry about getting someone elses radio from Harley, and you dont have to wqorry about the same problem happening again! Dont get me wrong...warranty stuff is great and it's FREE!! But my piece of mind and turn around time was certainly worth every penny...Good luck whatever way you decide to go....
