Default 20,000 mile service done including front fork oil change, waiting on spring

I finished up my 20,000 mile service last night. I have the rest of the winter for a buff, wax and polish.

If you are planning on changing your fork oil, be prepared, it sucks. I had to use an impact driver to get the screws out. There was no way they could be removed with a regular screwdriver (even with a pair of vice grips clamped on the screwdriver). My oil was VERY DIRTY!! I have no idea how MoCo says this is a 50,000 mile service item. I would hate to see how bad it would be at 50,000.

I had to put the vise grips directly on the screws to budge them, then replaced them with regular hex heads. Much easier, and not really noticeable. Somebody at the Moco goes crazy on the Loctite.

I don't know what it is about forks but that oil looks nasty whenever you change it! I chromed my lower legs at about 8K and it already looked really bad.

Did mine this summer as well. Thanks to ICLICKS posting here which really made the process very easy. The oil was pure black and smelled like crappolla as well!

I used ICLICK's method also, it worked well and is nothing to be afraid of other than those effin screws. I replaced mine with some stainless allen head bolts. Found them at my hardware store. They were metric, and they did seem to seat well. I bet I will be able to get them back out much easier in the future.
