I have been looking to get a new bike 2010, I have it down to a Road Glide, Electra Glide Classic, or Road King Std. I have tested all three and don't have a clear winner.
I'm planning on getting a tour-pak for the two that are not std equipment. Most trips are to work 35-40 miles one way. I wear full helmet and Leather jacket no matter what the temp. We will ride weekends in the 150-200 mile range per day.
I like the fairing in the fall because I believe I would ride more to work. 35-45 degree area. However, I'm concern that the 85-90 days will be too warm behind it in the jacket.
Dealers says I need a Road Glide because of height, friends say fairing because they are nice once you get one, and wife says Road King because it looks more like a Harley.
If you go with the Road King you can put a fairing on for the colder temps, and run a regular winshield (or no windshield at all) in the nicer weather. Biggest difference i think you will find is the radio factor, which can be addressed on a Road King as well, especially if you go with a detachable fairing.

if you want a stereo get the RG or EG. I ride a RK for work (40 hours a week) and when it came time to buy my own I went with the EG. Both handle identical but the fairing is much more comfortable to be behind on long rides. I thought long and hard about getting the RG but like the style of the bat wing fairing better.
Thanks, dealer is getting a Road King in this week, so I can look at all three at the same time. Leaning toward Road Glide, but hard to beat Electra already setup for the same price.
I had a 2001 RoadKing std. The wife and I loved that bike. We used heated gear when it got too cold and during the summer the rides were good. Last year I was in an accident (cage turning left in front of me) and T-boned a car. The bike was totaled. We now ride a 2009 Electra Glide Classic, batwing and all. The wife and I enjoy this bike much more than the RK. She is more relaxed and comfy and I enjoy the tunes. The EGC handles very well and the batwing keeps us warmer when it's cold but not warmer during the summer.
