That's because all you guys buying parts are bragging here about getting parts cheaper, then telling your dealers and baggering them to meet the other discounts. Loose lips sink ships, what did you expect.
MOCO is doing it to protect it's product. By discounting the MOCO thinks the Ddealers are "de-valuing" the product. They have already done it with motorcycles. Notice no more ad's in the Trader or anything about discounted new motorcycles? The part's are next. Dealer's can still runs special pricing on bike's and part's, but cannot advertise it. Most ad's for new bike's now say " see Dealer for detail's. can't talk on the phone either.
To keep getting the online discount. Maybe the dealers should think about the idea of making less profit off each item but more overall profit by selling more volume. It's not like their profit margins off these parts are razor thin.

The dealers are not permitted to ADVERTISE a lower price than listed in the HD literature. They are permitted to have SPECIAL discounts for their customers at their discretion. These are rules imposed upon the dealers by the MOCO. The larger dealers can afford to discount parts because of volume, the smaller ones can't. If you owned the business, wouldn't you try to maintain the list price? The dealer I do business with has specials through the year and I try to take advantage when they do, because I want them to stay in business.
The point of this was that some dealers were bitching to the MOCO about online dealers advertising a discount. My only point is that instead of these dealers trying to match, or come close, to the online prices they just run to the MOCO to stop the online advertisement. Why not wake up and try to do something to increase your sales yourself instead of blaming online dealers. You're making it sound like the MOCO is driving this as opposed to what was stated earlier, that it was some of the dealerships complaining to the MOCO to do something. I think a lot of people would be willing to work with a dealer for some sort of discount as opposed to getting their arrogant, "this is our price, take it or leave it". See ya, I'll go online.

I've used Lakeshore HD for 2+ years. The service has been 100%. The parts mgr. (Bill) has always been easy to reach by phone, and has always been helpful. Even if the discount went away I would still do business with Lakeshore HD. They earned my business with service, not just price.
To get back on topic, you might want to give M&M Cycles a try. At elast a 20% discount and they have more than just HD. Mark is very helpful and his prices are fair.
