The leak is usually slow so you should still be able to pump it up long enough to release the lock. Also if the locks are holding the weight there is almost no pressure on the fluid in the jack so it won't leak.

I'm guessing there was something on the floor that the sidestand hit when the bike eased down.....Maybe he'll decide to let us know why it fell right vice left.

Reminds me of last year when I had my truck on stands and my 15 year old floor jack decided to retire before I could set it back on the ground....It was late, raining and cold, only store open miles away.....Decided to ride bagger to work that night and borrow bottle jacks back(I had taken mine to work to use there)......That was a miserable long night......Bought two floor jacks the next day

The lock on mine will and has failed. Luckily the hydrolics had not bled down much further, but I'm always nervous of leaving the bike on the lift for long.
I have a 16" or so , piece of 6 x 6. I slip it into the jack, then let the lift down so it squeazes the wood and won't drop any further.
I leave it like that sometimes for months, sometimes for hours, no worries.

The jiffy was down and nothing under it.As it is, I have to lift the jack and shove it in place to get it under the left bottom rail.I think the jack prevented the bike from falling onto the jiffy stand.

Would have been a lot worse if the jack handle went into the side of the tank.I was lucky!

I have a sawed off 4x4 that I stick between the jack just to combat this. My Sears Red leaks down, the Yellow..not yet.
