Default Roller lifter sliding inside of rolling

Anyone ever hear of this? I have a S&S 510 roller gear drive cams in my 05 classic. I had my 88" bored to 98". Head work, bigger vaules, roller lifters, roller rockers. I have about 10,000 miles with no probs. I've been running dyno oil in it sence the build and at 10,000 changed to Mobil 1. It has about 1500 miles on the Mobil 1, and I start hearing this rattleing sound comming from the front rocker box. I take it to my indy, and he tears it down. Thats when he tells me the Mobil 1 is too slick for the rollers to work properly. They want to slide instid of rolling. Now I have two bad lifters and both cams are gone.

I would bet your problem has more to do with the work you had done, then the oil being too slippery.,,

That old myth about synthetic oil causing bearings to "skate" will never go away. It is pure nonsense.

It is possible that a lifter bearing in the roller went bad causing the roller to stop rolling and that scored the cam. However the oil being too slippery is total BS.

Dyno oil could have been a little thicker and that helped the roller spin. If the bearing was bad it did not make any difference what oil you were using.

Man, your builder thinks you're stupid. Seriously, find another builder.

I have a personal rule. Anyone that tells me something like that instantly looses my business. There are only two reasons someone will tell you something like that. Either he believes it to be true, in which case he's not smart enough to be working on *my* motor. Or, he thinks you'll believe something that ridiculous. If he has no more respect for his customers than that he can't be honest. If it were my bike I'd show up with a trailer, load the bike & whatever parts he'd pulled off, & take it to someone else. You can't be much worse off..........
