I think it should made mandatory when you registar for this site. I know I get frustrated when someone talks about temp, scenery, bars, etc. and you look to see where they are from and location is not there. Don't have to give your street address. Heck just a general idea like 'Midwest', 'Northeast', so one would at least have an idea of the area your talking about.
