Default Garage humidity question??

I live in the south near the coast and the humidity in my garage is bad. Will a cover keep the humidity off my bike or will it still get on the bike through the bottom of the cover and be worse? What do you guys do? Will a fan blowing on the bike all the time keep it dry? Any help is appreciated.

The trick to keeping dew off the bike is to keep the bike temp above the dew point. My bike was covered and we had a very humid and warm day right after a very cold day, my bike was wet all over. So I uncovered and let it dry. Went back out later when it dried off and covered it up.

A cover is the WORSE thing in humidity. Leave it uncovered, use a fan, check on it frequently, and air out the garage on less humid days...IMO
Lot of work it seems, but this is what it takes when stored out of a climate controlled enviroment.

OR

Put it in the house......preferrably the Living room.

Down here in the winter it may be 30 degrees at night and warm up to 60 by 10AM. It's almost impossible to keep water from condensing on a bike in a garage or shed. The engine stays cold and water condenses on it. I keep mine in a storage shed with a fan in the window hooked up to a timer that kicks it on at 8AM and off at 11 in order to slowly warm the shed up. I know it uses electricity but that has to balance out against the chrome on 3 bike engines being ruined. Sometimes if it's windy i cut it off and open both doors, that works too.

I live in a humid area of the country (not as bad as you on the coast) and the other day I was walking out of the garge looked over at the bike (as I always do) and it had dew all over it. I thought WTF?I had never seen this before. It has just rained for a few days and it was cold. I had never seen this in this garage before. My floor is always dry.

To make a long story short: I put a fan blowing towards the bike and it dried right off. So I'm leaving a fan on it this winter. It doesn't take much, I'm leaving the fan on the lowest setting and it has been working fine. You need to do that just for the rust factor being on the coast too.

In my opinion, a cover would trap moisture. Use a fan and see if it helps.

Your biggest enemy is condensation on the bike. Humidity is also an issue but the bigger one is condensation. Do NOT cover the bike, and as others have said, keep a fan at a moderate speed to circulate the air. As long as the air and the bike are the same temp, no condensation, and moving the air around will ensure that.

A small fan is the best way to go. Keep the air circulating and you won't notice any significant condensation.

I have never had this problem as my garage is heated, ya up north. My buddy had a bad problem with the bike getting wet with condensation all the time. He lives in the same hood as me. all he did was park the bike on a 3/4 sheet of plywood. problem solved. Not sure why but it worked. your mileage may vary...

You can purchase Dehumidifiers if you can't make it stop with a fan.
