Default Long Term Storage - What is Needed?

Folks;

I might be sent overseas for a job assignement for 2-3 yrears and wandering how to store my bike. It is still brand new (2010 RG). I will probably return once a year and during this time I will have a chance to ride it. I will put it on a jack and battery tender while I am gone, what else do I need to do?

One more thing, I live in the Phoenix area where it never gets too cold.

Thanks.

I am not the expert on long term storage but if it were mine it would have a fresh service oil change. Fresh wax and treat any leather or rubber and a nice cover. I am thinking inside storage. Fuel system would be next concern. Stabil or choice of fuel preservative. Some store full tank some like to keep as low as possible. With today's fuel less or none in better I think but you can get arguments both ways your choice.

You will miss not riding and good luck on your assignment if it goes through.

Or you could sell it and buy new when you get home for good. Have a real good friend ride it once in a while so it does not sit so long. I am sure you could get a volunteer or two.

I'd be happy to fly out there and ride it from time to time for you, say anywhere between November and March?

Ditto and love Arizona. May be able to secure an elk tag and after the fact would be more that happy to keep your scoot running for you.

I was told to change the oil if it has been awhile since the last change, run some Stabil through the fuel system (while running) and to top off tank with premium gas. This will prevent any rusting. Since you live in AZ, this may not be a problem for you. I also have mine on a 'lockable' lift jack and have a battery tender hooked up. Covered in a sheet that will allow it to breathe.

Is it for Flor Daniels, KBR or Dynacorp? I work for KBR in Iraq.

1. Wax as much of the bike as possible, tins, chrome, etc.
2. Put fresh oil in the motor only.
3. Pull the plugs and fog the cylinders with fogging spray from NAPA.
4. Put Sta-bil in the fuel and make sure you run it a little to get it into the FI system.
5. Battery tender.

Since you're in AZ, your climate is dry so you don't have to worry about moisture too much. Keep any potential for UV rays off the tires(cover the bike).

That outta be fine for a year at a time.

I would do this........
#3 While running the motor to get some Stbil in the system, (remove your air filter)
spray Fogging Oil into the intake until you get white exhaust coming out the exhaust.
#4 Then pull the plugs and spray alittle more in the cylinders.....turn them over.

This will keep any rust from starting because of exhaust moisture....front to back.

This is what I do before my bikes winter naps.
