Welcome to the forum and thank you for serving in that desolate dangerous place. The street glide weighs over 800 lbs that may take some getting used to, I see you have a Suzuki. Take your time and enjoy .

A couple of questions.

1.Did you already take possesion of the bike?I ask this because it would bother me if 4 months of my 2 year warrenty where lost.

2.Where is the bike being stored?Heated storage?Even if its still at the dealers that doesnt mean its in a heated storage area.

3.Does the bike have a battery tender attached?Fastest way to kill a battery is to let it sit.

4.Has the gas been topped off, stabylized?Gas goes stale and leaving a tank half full can introduce condensation and corrosion in the tank.

If it where me I'd change the oil, tranny and primary fluids before I ever road it a mile.Condensation can break down fluids when left idle..JMHO.

Thank you for your service.

thank you everyone for the posts.. yes i have taken delivery i have looked into some stuff on the warranty end...from what i have found harley will credit you time for your warranty if you are on active overseas service... so i should be getting the extra 4 months back...

i will be going on leave in about a month and will get my first hands on look at that bike... im going to pick out some of the necessary accessories at that time and figure some of that stuff out then... no engine mods at this time... i will take my time with the rest... my suzuki weighed about 800 lbs as well so as far as the weight im not really worried... i have looked into the video and planned on purchasing it...

my big concern is the break in on the bike because there is a bunch of opinions on how to do it correctly...

... but not right away. Use standard fossil HD oil & other fluids for the first two changes at least, then yes, switch to synthetic. Synthetic is far superior long term, but doesn't allow a new motor to wear in and seat properly.

Take it easy and get to know the bike for many hundreds of miles. Break-in will come soon enough. Don't worry so much about babying it as much as let the engine come up to temp before giving it much juice.

If you get to know the bike and take care of it it will take care of you. I recommend first oil change at 250 then again at 1000. Then about 2000-2500 or so change everything to any good synthetic. Personally I've used Mobile 1 in everything I own... its been around a long time with lots of R&D behind them, but thats just me.

Congrats on the new purchase, and welcome to the addiction that is HD. I was in your shoes this time last year so I kinda feel your pain.(afghanistan w/new bike waiting). The DVD is definetly worth the money. As far as breakin, I followed the HD break in guidelines and I haven't had an issue yet. Took posession in Mid April, 8700+ miles later, and no issues.

Welcome to the group and congrats on the new ride. I feel your pain about having a new scoot at home and being stuck over here, and it only gets worse when you have to put the bike away to come back from leave. As far as warranty time, that is correct you will just need to show your orders/LOA's and they will credit the time that you are deployed.

If you are on VBC hit me up and I will buy you a cup of joe at Green Beans and we can talk HD's. If not, be safe and hurry home to enjoy that beautiful new bike.

I think the latest one is Ride Like a Pro V. You don't have to buy any of the ones before it because as the vids come out, he basically just improves on the last one. Don't worry about the "specialty ones" like the police rodeo and riding the dragon for now. The techniques aren't bad to learn. If you go to a parking lot with a buddy who knows how to ride and do the exercises, you will absolutely smoke the MSF course and the DL test. I don't know if you are active duty or guard/reserve, but I will say since this seems to be your first "big" bike, take the MSF course. I know you have to if you're active, they really want you to if you're reserve component but there is no check and balance really. Take the course it will be good for you, especially if you do it on the SG. The ride like a pro site has some guards to put on your crash bar to help in the event you lay it down. You should be good though.....
