its the same with my cars and my truck and I use them a lot more than my bikes... granted $hit happens - thats life. Does it mean that it will happen 100% of the time when your on a trip?
Proper maintainance goes a long way with any machine
*******
Yup, proper maintenance is a wonderful thing. A '91 with 200k+ on it and a 2000 with 160k+ on it prove that. And you're right, it doesn't happen 100% of the time on the road - it only has to happen once. I like being able to toss the shop my keys and a $50 and say, "I'll be at the bar!" rather than wondering if between me and my buddies' tool pouches we have everything we need, can we fashion a lift, is there a place under cover to do this because it looks like it's going to rain and who can run and get parts, fluids and tools - like the time I had a Jim's lifter turn sideways in the middle of Missouri on a Saturday evening.... Personally, I love the 'Peace of Mind' and I negotiated the 7 year extended warranty on this '09 way down from original asking price.
Heres a poll for you. I see 10 posts on this thread from people who say they have the warranty. Out of those 10 I see only 2 people who have used it. Out of those 2 people one said he could have done it cheaper than the deductable. So really out of 10 people 1 person used it. That's 10% So then the questions is do you want to spend 1k or 2k for piece of mind that you will have a 10% chance of using?
I bet if you ask people if they had an accident during the last 3 years, you'd find that less than 10% did. Does that mean you're gonna drop your insurance?

Apples and oranges, you are required by law and or the finace company to carry insurance - not much of a choice there

No. Because I cant fix broken bones. I also cant fix a stolen bike. Is your extended warranty going to fix those things?. I would also say that accidents would be more than 10%. Also the law says I have to carry insurance not an extended warranty

You're required to carry Liability Insurance to cover the other guy's health and property. You're not required to carry comp or collision (unless you have a lien holder)
I got the extended warranty when I purchased my SG. This is my first Harley and I got it for piece of mind. To me, better to have and not need, than to need and not have.
