Default Oil pressure

Did a search not much help. I own a 2009 ultra today after a 30 mile ride I noticed the oil pressure at idle about 3 lbs 1500 to 2000 rpm about 30-32 lbs, is this normal?

It is on my '07 when it's warmed up. Wait till it gets hot out.

Normal. You will notice that after the bike is all warmed up the oil pressure is fairly low at idle. As long as you get good pressure 30-32 on the road then you are good to go.

First thing my dealer told me when I bought my Ultra....don't freak out when you look at the oil pressure at idle at a stoplight....it's gonna be low.

Your's sounds right in the ballpark

One thing to know is that the oil pump is engine driven therefore when at higher rpm you will get high pressure and lower rpm= lower pressure. And yes warmer oil has a lower viscosity

All Harleys motors are mostly roller bearings making it impossible to make big oil pressure. It is all about the flow of oil not pressure.Yes,low pressure at idle is normal

It is all about the flow, the 07 and up bikes have a higher flow pump, but pressure will still fall off at idle.

Bothered me some too, when my 01' egc did the same thing. So when my 09' ultra followed suit i wasn't as alarmed. Like all else are saying it's normal, but it just don't seem right. That's the old dog new tricks syndrom again.

That's about the same reading I get on my 06 Ultra. Never bothered me as I figure as long as there is flow I shouldn't have need to worry. On previous posts on this subject the readings you provided are about the same, so at least we have some understanding that this is a good reading or average.

Default BennieSG...You're Mistaken

Another "thing to know" is that you're mistaken. Warmer oil actually has a higher viscosity. In the term "20W50" the "W" doesn't stand for "weight"...it stands for "Winter" (really). As viscosity is measured on scale against the viscosity of water....20W50 is 20 times thicker than water when it's cold (Thinner so it gets to components faster to provide lubricity) ....and 50 times thicker than water when it's hot (When you need it to conduct heat away from the engine components the most).

P.S. To the OP...I also have a 2009 Ultra, and those oil pressures are just fine.
