Default Oil temp sending units

Harley in the past use to say to mount their temp sending unit in the lines near the oil cooler on some of their models. Now i hear they mount them in the pan where there is a allen head pipe plug which is in the main oil pickup gallery. This sending unit use to be 1/8 npt and you would need a 3/8 male npt-1/8 female npt adapter to adapt this to you pan.Which would keep the sending unit from sticking to far into the oil pickup gallery and blocking any flow . Now i see that in Rodger McEwans kits his sending unit is one piece 3/8 npt with a much larger diameter and longer end on the sending unit that looks like it could possibly reduce oil flow from sticking farther into the gallery. Has anyone installed this new sending unit or noticed this? I also see a resistor soldered into the sensor wire was this in the models with the smaller sending unit?

I'm using a hd sender with the adapter and it works good. Also had a McEwan on a earlier bike and it worked fine too. never noticed that it reduced oil flow in any way.

Default just the sender or adapter and sender?

I see but was it a sending unit with an adapter or was it just a sending unit you put in your pan with the McEwan unit? The adapter keeps it from going way into the gallery i think. I see his new sender is a large 3/8 inch one peice sending unit and it looks like it will go a lot deeper into the oil gallery which i don't like.I also see he has soldered a resistor into the sending unit wire, was that cause of this new sender or has that always been in his wire?

The old sensor was a commonly used unit found at any NAPA or import car parts store. In the pan, there is no restriction of flow.
