Went to the dealer last week and made an appointment. It was set for Aug 3rd. Cost $480. Then the more I read on the boards here the more I realized I could do it myself. I figured if I ran into something majorly wrong that was under warranty I could still take the bike in on the scheduled appointment day. So off to the local HD shop I went. I just told the parts guy that I wanted everything I needed to do a 10k service. He brought everything out. (The only thing I switched was the tranny fluid. I went with redline...which they had there.) Total cost for everything including the maintenance manual and handy dandy oil filter wrench was $135.65.
I brought it all home and had everything done in about 3 hours. The manual is straight forward and everyhting is in order on what you should do to the bike.
All thats left to do tommorow is to wash and shine her up and I will be all set for the weekend.
If anyone is thinking about doing it yourself I say go for it. It would be really hard to mess something up if you use the manual.
Dam, I just had my 10k done last week here at a local independant mechanic and it cost me $490. That included 2 new tires. Sometimes I really dislike dealers.

If the $490 included two new tires mounted and installed, I'd say you got a pretty good deal. [sm=signs007.gif]

I had my 10K done labor and all $175.00 Got 2 Elite 3 tires at cost cause I worked there for a bit. Total was like $400.00 and some change.. So If you are ever in Topeka and need work done Look up Burnout Cycles.. The guy that owns the shop does it all...............
keep the chrome side up and be safe...............
yea, 10k service, 2 new stock tires mounted and balanced. Hes an outstanding mechanic as well. If anyone in the middle TN area needs his Info just let me know.
Well I'm glad I not alone on this. I just turned 10,000 on my 04 FLHTI today and been thinking about doing it myself . Dealer wanted $250 and said they only check the plugs and replace them only if needed. And the independant shop wanted $300 but he did say he changes the plugs ( Like the owers manual calls for ) Both wanted more for the synthetic oils about $40 bucks more. I think I'll buy the manual and do it myself. And I won't have to travel the 45 miles one way to get to the shop plus take a day off from work and wait for them to do the work.
Have my 10K appointment next tuesday. I'm heading out to Stugis for FL Aug 5th so i kinda want a professional to look at it. Here in the Tampa area the prices really varry. Where i bought the Bike they want $439 plus $30 for Syn3. Another local dealer get $296 and $25 for Syn3 but he has no appointments until (get this ) Aug 23rd.
So I am using a local that many have recommended. He gets the same $296 as the lower dealer. I have 9300miles on the bike and figure I may need brakes and a rear tire before heading out.
