FWIW, I bought an 05 and an 09 new and waited until the 1k service before any engine mods including pipes and air filter.

I've had it both ways and the dealer might have some input. First bike I had I purchased stage one and pipes with it but they wouldn't install untill I had 500 miles on the bike. Thier comment was that on the slim chance I got a bad engine, there wouldn't be any warranty issues with the add ons. Second bike, different dealer, they put it all on right away and dyno'd after 1000 miles.

But it with the bike and ask the dealer what they recommend.

Either way, get it. In my personal opinion, which means nothing, it is the first thing you should do to the bike at a minimum. Adding pipes and a dyno tune with the tuner device of your choice would be even better.

If you want it dyno'd. I would hold off. Even if no dyno, I'd be disciplined to avoid revving high for the 500 - 1,000 miles.

I also like to wait for the first 1000. Mostly because I like to get a good feel for how it rides stock so I can gauge the upgrade..

Same here, You don't need mods to break in your bike. Wait till after break in, it's only 1,000mi.
