Does anyone know if a 30oz MSR fuel bottle will fit in the place of the water bottle on part number 91991-98, Saddlebag Guard Bag and Water Bottle Holder - Bar & Shield Logo?
I have made several trips cross country and at least twice I have come very close to running out of fuel. Two of the 30oz MSR bottles gives me about a half gallon so I should have an additional 20 mile range if I do run out. Planning a trip to Alaska this summer so it is even more important. Don't want to carry in my saddle bags for sure!!
I have flown the Alcan three times in a Super Cub, once in a Beech and twice in a C 180. Never drove it. I do believe that I would take more than a half gallon of extra gas from what I have seen of the Alaskan Highway. I have never run my bike out of gas ether, but I have put 5.2 gallons in it once in central Oregon. I now carry two of the MSR aluminum fuel bottles in my tour pack. They do not leak or smell unless you get fuel on them when filling them up. Be sure to get you a copy of The Milepost to plan your stops.

Thanks, rodeking, that is good to know about the MSR bottles. I am going for a 4 week trip to Alaska this summer and don't really want to use the space in my tour pack for the MSR bottles. If they will fit in the bag guards, that would be ideal, IMO. NP if they leak then and they are on the outside instead of the inside of the bike, just feel safer that way too!! I have a copy of the Milepost already, great advice!! Looks like if you don't pass up a single gas station on the Alcan, you will be alright! I am planning to ride the Dalton up to the Arctic Circle too, IF it isn't raining. That may be more of a challenge on the gas. Any tricks to filling one of these bottles at a gas station pump? BTW, my '07 Ultra is Dark Cherry too.
check out our coolie cup holders we do make ALL different types...If you dont see what you need maybe I can make you something..
Hey, Captain Itch, this might work, "Drink Holder to mount on Saddlebag Guards". The 30 oz MSR Bottle is 3 1/4" in diameter and 11 1/2" long. Think it would fit?

The bottles are impossible to fill up without spillage at a gas pump with or without a funnel, unless it is a really weak and slow pump. I fill mine from a gallon jug with a funnel. If you get gas on the bottles the smell is hard to wash off. I would not worry to much about the danger of the bottles because the are more secure than the tank between your legs. I have a multi fuel backpacker stove that I fuel from the bottles also.
Maybe u can find some of those paper disposable funnels to take along?? Unless you're really careless and pass a bunch of fuel stops (LOL) u should only have to fill them once maybe??

After I get moving around I will measure it for ya but I am sure it will work and it also has a leather string on top to secure the bottle in place..
I carried one of the MSR bottles full of gas in my tourpac this past summer when we did the Yellowstone trip. Never leaked a drop and it was great piece of mind. One bottle wouldn't have gotten me very far but it might have been just far enough.
