Default screamin eagle adjustable pushrods

I just put some SE pushrods in my scoot and had one come loose after only 70 miles. My question is has anybody else had this problem or is there something special you have to do to keep them tight? Should i have put locktite or is just torqueing them down enough?

Some have had them come loose before. I never have. Some use loctite. Did you use the newer tapered ones or the older version? There's a chap on another site that is making and selling replacement jam nuts for the adjustable pushrods that supposedly helps. I always make sure mine are good and tight.

I had a local indy shop install SE adj pushrods when I had gear drive installed. Is there a way for me to check, or how will I know if one is loose? A strange noise or what?

Thanks for the quick answer dawg. I inspected the lifter and the pushrod. I don't see any damage. Is there anything I should look for in the way of damage from that coming loose? I have the pushrod # 17998-99A for the intake and 17906-99A for the exhaust. I'm really nervous about this backing off again. Do you think putting blue loctite on it is a good idea? I made sure they were good and tight before. is there a torque spec. for the nut?thanks again.

I had one come loose 2k miles after I put them it. It loosened on the interstate. I heard the noise, but couldn't tell what it was due to traffic whizzing by. I pulled over just as the engine died. I tried starting it one too many times. The bike kicked back and bent the loose pushrod...exhaust BTW. I ended up on a trailer. I went back and locktited them all when I put the new one in. No problems in 25k miles, now.

You will hear a ticking that will start out quiet and get louder real quick and you will also start losing power real quick. I inspected everything and seen no sign of damage so i readjusted, loctite and tightened the crap out of them. Fired it up sounded fine. Will hope this doesnt happen again as it scared the crap out of me. Just replaced inner cam bearings and did the tensioner upgrade on this bike and thought something went badly wrong.

I just had the same thing happen today in 40 miles. It did go real quick too. Hear the noise, lost power, and by the time I pulled over and tried to pin point front or rear cylinder the engine died. It was running on one. Turned out to be the front intake. I retightend and made it home. Pulled both front pushrods out. I could see a couple slight dings on the outer edge of the lifter, but the pushrod looked the same as the other. The threads were very slightly roughed up. I reinstalled it and put another 10 miles on it. Sure as hell hope it doesn't happen again. I kinda feel lucky as of now. That sh-t can easily ruin your riding season.

I've installed several hundred sets and never had one come loose. When you get to your adjustment hold the screw with the 5/16" wrench and the rod with the 1/2" wrench in one hand and snug the nut with the third wrench. Now with JUST the two 1/2" wrenches on the tube and the nut give it a real good tightening, no loctite needed.

Neither I, nor anyone I know had a problem with the AMF push rods coming loose. What has changed?

The lock nut broke on my SE adjustables, non tapered, so I went back to the one piece. Where do I get a new set of lock nuts?
