How are you guys depinning the harness to do internal wiring for the handlebars? Is there a special tool to help or how do they come apart?

release hook catch with needle nose pliers and pull up, then you can release pins with paper clip....assuming you're talking about molex?

The HD Service manual for your bike has an excellent description in the appendix.

Also, it's important to know the year and model of the bike since HD does change the manufacturer/vendor of the connectors from time to time.

You can also try googling Deutsch, Tyco AMP, and Molex since all have information on disassembling and reassembling connectors.

Yes its a tedious job but can be done. I used small flat precision screwdriver to release the pins. Make sure you make a sketch of the wires so you know how they go back. Manual tells how to do it as well

look in Appendix A connector repair. Just know that the pin housing comes out with pliers, but has clips on the side. Use the small flathead or paperclip to get in there, then pull the housing out. Good luck

not enough patients for that. I just cut 'em, lengthen them, feed the wires and solder. I always seem to be putting taller bars on peoples bikes so this works for me. I would probably do the same even if the bars were the same length. Its just that much easier for me.

There is a special tool to open the secondary lock without damaging the connector, paper clips can damage them, then you have to replace the connector. Molex want $81.00 for the tool. Intermountain Cycle Products has them for $25.00

Just finished my 08 SG it took me awhile to figure out the connectors but in all i had the bars changed and rewired in a hour. best way to tell you is to first make a wire diagram then release the two clips on the inside the connector and pull the center out with small pliers then its all going to fall apart after you run your wires and are ready to put things back, The center your pulled out with pliers will lock in half way in the connector, now clip in all your wires once thats done finish locking down the clip,if you push the center in to far the wires wont push in. GLAD I CONFUSED YOU GOOD LUCK!!! its not that bad.

Paper clip works fine. Making a wireing diagram is a must.
