Dragon Tail Run
I would like to hear people's take that have been there, but for now I am on the fence about going there for a few reasons. I hear stories from some guys at work that went there and say it is pretty crazy riding that stretch, because you have semi's that should not even be on that road taking up both lanes forcing you onto the soft shoulder or into the trees. Then you have guys on bikes that use it as a race track when all you want to do is cruise thru the turns.

was there last year and plan a return for this year in August. FYI you must ride the Devil's Triangle which I found more of a challenge than the Dragon. Sorry, i can't remember the route but check around and someone will have the directions. Also as always, watch out for the LEO's. Ride safe and enjoy!!!
Pack your DOT helmet too they will be looking....lol
Great ride and many great rides in that area too.
Here is a link that will give you some maps of the area and some of the other great rides

Oh crap - we don't even have D.O.T. style helmets! Surely not everyone is going out and buying them to run the dragon. I've been fine with my little lid and doubt I'd like very much one I can't hear out of.
The Dragon is a boat load of fun. But, in my book, the Cherohola Skyway is the must-do. It's scenic and a great ride.
The Dragon is a busy ride. You will be busy setting up for the next curve; busy watching for traffic behind and in front of you. If you see an oncoming bike or car giving you a signal, they may be escorting a semi and warning you of danger around the next curve. Pay attention to it. The most important rule is to ride your own ride and don't exceed your limit, experience level, or comfort zone.
My own particular "problem" on the Dragon had to do with my own startle response when being overtaken by crotch rockets. Some fools lane share with you while they are passing you. If you don't know they are coming, it can be both startling and dangerous. Watch your mirrors and know what is going on around you in BOTH direction.

If you google and go to their web site, tons of information including where speed traps are usually expected to be. Living very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and it being a 45 MPH speed limit I never speed there or rarely anywhere else for that matter. There was one occasion when I was on the Parkway and went as fast as 60, ashamed to say but it was getting mighty cold and had my other half and wanted to get off the mountain ASAP. Have yet to do Deals Gap but looking forward to it. Just not a big fan of riding in large groups. Any time I have there have always been those that can not ride in proper formation. YES, I am **** in case not noticed but surely you have!!!!
Been there a dozen times ....its a great ride, just don't let your ego over ride your skills and you'll be fine. Don't get it twisted tho....go up there doing your Eddie Lawson act and you will at best get hurt real damn bad....be carefull have fun.
My last trip on the Dragon was July 13th, 2007 (a Friday to boot) 2 up full luggage in the rain. I've been there and done it! But I road the 555 from outside Marietta to Zanesville 3 times and will ride it again this year. The Dragon was down hill all the way, turn after turn etc... My arms were actually tired by the time I hit the bottom. On the 555 you go up and down, nice twist and turns plus scenery at a much more of a relaxed pace!
I'm from Michigan and we go down 800 and cross the river at Fly Ohio, stay in Marietta Ohio and come back the next day on the 555! That's my kind of ride... IMHO!

I ride several times evry year and will be there at least 4 times this year. I do try to ride it on a week day and enjoy other roads on sat. What u have been told so far is accurate and alot cant be added.
I live 7 hrs away and in flat terrain. I love it up in the mtns cause it is a totally different ride for me and requires a more intense skill set.
