charging problem
hi, i have an 08 ultra classic, if i leave bike sit for a week, battery is stone cold dead, i bought it to harley a few months ago for a bad starter and asked them to check charging system,because the battery would go completely dead they replaced the bad starter and put in a brand new battery and and they said everything was fine, that was a few months ago, any way it still keeps going dead after a few day, and i mean 100% dead is anyone else having a charging problems,

Pull the connector from the voltage regulator to the stator. Start the bike and check the voltage. You should be reading 42 volts AC at 2500 RPMs. If your not getting this your stator needs to be replaced. Also check your battery with a volt meter while the bike is running. Sould be reading 14 volts DC.

If your bike is still under warranty you should let the Harley tech troubleshoot it. You should never assume a battery is good just because it is new. If a brand new battery was installed, the first thing you should do would be to fully charge it. Generally when a new battery is put into service, it is usually recommended to charge it. After fully charging the battery, and it continues to loose it's charge, you should have the battery load tested. It is not uncommon to get a bad replacement battery. After you resolve the problem, It's agood idea to use a Battery Tender when not riding.

Bring the battery in to HD. They will charge it overnight and then test it on the Midtronics battery tester. It will tell them if the battery is the problem. If the battery is good, try as posted above and start looking at various areas of the charging system such as stator and regulator. Also run the battery tender on the bike whenever it sits for a period of time.

thanks for the imput, i called harley and they said they would come and pick it up, and yes its still under warrenty but i wanted some outside imput so if and when they tell me what they found i will some stuff to compare it to thanks again
