IF YOU REALLY WANT PROTECTION THEN AT YOUR HEIGHT THE 15 INCH WOULD BE IN ORDER. HOWEVER YOU CANT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. THAT WOULD BE LIKE SAYING YOU DONT WANT TO GET WET BUT DONT WANT TO WEAR A RAIN SUIT. YOUR ONLY CHOICE IS TO GET WET IF DORKINESS IS THAT IMPORTANT.
I'm 6'0 and have the stock 12" shield. The edge is right in my line of sight if I slouch back against the backrest. If I sit up straight it is fine. I might go with the 9" shield. The 9" shield might work for you as well if you don't want too much dorkiness.
Seat height is a factor & so are the handlebars, your posture, etc. Take your replies with a grain of salt.
(I'm a 6'1" Road King rider that has made alot of changes along the way - a little wind/rain in the face is better than "prarie *******" over the edge of the windshield, IMO)
most manufacturers recommend the top edge be least level with your nose if you dn't want to look thru the shield when you ride. i have a 15" on my RK. i'd go nuts if i had to look thru the shield going down the road. the image jump looking thru and then around it makes me crazy. and when it rains it would be even more irritating. but to each his own, i see lots of goldwings that the shield goes way over their head.
I am 8" shorter than you at 5'8". I cut down my stock 12" WS to 9" so that I looked over it. The top edge was in my line of sight at 12" and it drove me nuts to look thru that or to slouch and look thru the WS. Too much distortion for my tastes. Then I switched to the Cee Baileys WS. I love it. Check out the front of the HD accessories catalogue. It tells you the proper way to pick a WS.
