Default preventing scuffs?

I've been running the solo seat since the repaint, but the weather will be getting better soon, and the wife will be wanting to ride also. I'm concerned about scuffing the paint on the rear fender when I put the big comfy couch seat back on for her. Any ideas on something I can lay between the seat and the fender to help prevent scuffs? Would a micro fiber cloth work?

I don't know if Harley sells it without being in a kit of some kind, But the clear 3M sheet's, like comes with a American Flag that clips on the back of the tour pak. I think that would do it for you. The object is having something that will stick to the painted surface and won't move around, but will not scratch the paint and come off easy. JMO

Any piece of cloth will do, I believe I'm using a micro cloth protecting the paint on the fender. Works fine, can't see it either.

+1 and sounds like a great idea for your intended purposes. Any time I take my pillion off it is nasty dirty under there. Need to remember to do it one day when I am washing the bike. It does not come in contact with the fender so hopefully all I have is a dirt issue.

Trapped dirt is like sandpaper. It can and will scuff the paint just as bad as anything if not cleaned regularly...

This is the stuff I was refering to. I had a clear bra made from this stuff on a Lexus I owned. It worked great to prevent rock chips. Almost invisible as well.

As noted above, be very careful using a cloth as they do and will collect dirt thus scratching the paint fairly quickly.

I've had great luck stopping by local sign shops and getting pieces of clear static cling sign material. Many times the shops have ends of rolls and will give the stuff away for free.

Cut to fit and apply to clean surface using a little soapy water. Smooth to remove bubbles and let dry. Usually a really sharp knife will pretty much eliminate edges making the stuff almost invisible.

I use this material on my UC's tank where my knees often touch. Works great and cost me zero dollars.

Hope that helps!

I use clear packing tape (the heavy 3m brand). My 2up seat rubs the bottom of my console and a small place about 3" ahead of the seat screw on the fender. I put it on both places. I also use it on the corners of the fender where the wiring for the tour pak can touch and rub also.
I switch seats quite often and keep a roll hanging right by the bike. I give the fender a quick cleaning slap the tape on where it needs to be and mount the seat. It may take a extra minute but it's worth it to keep the paint and lower console free of scratches.
I peel it off when the solo seat goes on and reapply when the 2 up seat goes on. If you use anything permenant it will show scuffs in a short time. The tape I use is hazy looking where the seat or any wire touches it when I peel it off.

When I had my my 01 RKC, I used to change between a solo seat and two up regularly. I used the clear film, cut to fit, with a mouse pad, also cut to fit, on top of the film. No scuffs, but it was a PITA to get the film just right and smooth it out every time I put the two up seat on. On my 09 SG, I just use the mouse pad. Can throw it under the passenger pillion in 2 seconds when my wife wants to ride and still not a mark.
