It's happening with a lot of the touring bikes with ABS. I had to have the wife's 09 Street Glide and my 10 Screamin Eagle Street Glide brakes bled over and over before that problem went away, on our bikes.

Yes, a ridng buddy has just experienced the same thing with an 010 Limited. The brakes were mushy. He took it to his selling dealer, Eastern Shore in Daphne AL. They checked it out and tried to bleed the brakes. The problem continued and they said there was nothing wrong with the bike. My friend took it to neighboring Pensacola FL HD and they fixed the bike rather quickly.

Good luck man. No problems on my FLHTK... in fact I can't believe the stopping power I have [although I've never stopped so hard the ABS would kick in].

Please post back what you find out.

I'm pissed. Ok, I admit it.

your bike's too nice to stay pissed. if you can't ride it because of weather, go out in the garage and shine on it, great therapy.

Why not? Go out there and experience it. Get the bike rolling about 40-50 mph and just grab a hand full of front brake and stomp on the foot brake. I did, the first week my wife had her 09 Street Glide. That was a major factor that convinced me to go ahead and get a new bike. Everybody should experience it just to know how fast your bike can stop and what, exactly, it feels like. Know it before you need it.

If you really wanna surprise yourself unplug the front wheel speed sensor to disable the ABS and brake properly - ie set up and squeeze.

Without the ABS you can put so much more braking force on the wheel and stop the bike so much faster, it will really surprise you.

KingKingKing... it can be done, but real world tests show more consistent, repeatable and still short stopping distances with ABS. Nevermind what you are referring to is in IDEAL conditions, what happens when you are scared out of your mind by some crazy cager, its slightly wet, or you're on some loose gravel or any of a number of other bad conditions?

In my opinion, this aint racing, its real life on streets clogged with all sorts of hazards that don't exist on a racetrack. I may be able to stop sooner with ABS in IDEAL conditions, but a car pulling out in front of me pretty much represents LESS than ideal conditions.

YMMV

On the original subject, if you bleed the lines yourself, DOT 4 is highly corrosive and will take paint off wherever you touch it. It is not like the DOT 5 brake fluid in the older bikes. I have to bleed mine because of new line installations and I really dread doing it.

WTF? All I suggested was unplug it for a test. Thanks for preaching.
