I have a 2009 SG and am installing passenger floorboards in place of the pegs that it came with to make the wife more comfortable. The problem I am having is that the lower bolt is supposed to be torqued to about 40 inlbs then you move the bracket to line up the upper bolt at the height you desire, only once the lower bolt is torqued you can't move the bracket as it is tight. If you try and leave it loose and line up the upper bolt first the lower bolt is up in the bracket and pretty much inaccesible. The lower bolt is a shoulder bolt and this kit is the Harley kit for the SG with the Streamliner inserts. I realize the lower bolt is mostly for antirotation purposes but want to make sure as I want to be safe. Most brackets I have seen including the one that came off has a pin in the lower position and is only held by the upper bolt. Has anyone installed this bracket and had this issue and how did you address it? Thanks. I did try search but only came up with a bunch of misc. threads about bolts breaking and such.
I installed floorboards on my 09 SG. Unfortunatly I didn't have any problems with the install. I have the bolt installed the bolt in the second hole from the top and the pin is in the next hole.
You must have the brackets like I am used to seeing. Bolt on top with pin on bottom. This kit has a bolt on the bottom and the top and the bolt on the bottom instead of being in a hole is in a slot so you can move the bracket up and down to install the upper bolt at the desired height, only after torqueing the lower bolt you can't move the bracket. The kit I got is HD #50378-07B.
I dug through my records and found the instructions sheet for my kit. The kit I have is 50378-07. I'm assuming the 50378-07b must be a "new and improved". LOL seems new and more complicated...
Looking at the instructions it says the bottom screw is a shoulder bolt. That being the case it should not tighten up on the bracket! If it is getting tight then screw is to short or the bracket is a little to thick.
Greetings from SC, all I did was removed just the passenger pegs and and attached the HD floorboards, then bought the clamps and attached the pegs to my crash bar.
See my photos in my profile of the HD Floorboards & Pegs installed.
