What tool do you use to crimp the pins? Can you simply solder instead of buying the $ 200 tool?

If you are careful, you can crimp them with an ordinary wire crimping tool and a pair of needle nose pliers to finish it off.

No didn't buy the high dollar one. I used the crimp tool I already had for GM weatherpack terminals. I think it may be this one. http://www.amazon.com/Delphi-Packard.../dp/B002CCAEJ6
Looks like Sears also has one. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...21x00003a#desc
Also found others using a search for GM Weatherpack or Deutsch crimp tool.

I use the BCT-1; $25:

Does an excellent job on Deutsch, AMP and Multilock sockests and pins.

A cheaper alternative is Philmore WS26; $10 at Fry's Electronics. Use this for a couple of years and works fine; but, the BCT-1 works better--less dressing of the crimps.
