Have been using Barnett clutch plates for years on my Harleys. Never had a problem. There are numerous brands out there made with various materials. I usually just buy the Kevlar clutch discs and not the metal plates. If the metal plates are not warped, just sand them down.

In regards to the SE kit. I used one once on my 2000 Fatboy when I replaced the clutch shell. I found the spring way to stiff and made the clutch hard to pull...defeated the easy ramp I had installed to get an easier pull clutch. I did not see any difference with the heavier duty plates in the SE kit myself...if a clutch is properly adjusted, you shouldn't get slipping or grabbing anyway.

If you continue to do a lot of low speed, slip the clutch type of riding, then maybe, maybe, a heavier clutch plate system might be best. However, for normal riding, just a good set of kevlar plates (like the Barnett) works well for a long time.

But...that's me...I don't have the extra money to buy Harley SE stuff or replace a full clutch pack kit with the latest clutch technology. I just need plates that work like stock.

I think Ya'll would be better off on a metric. You could then make off hand remarks on the metric forum.

OK... this Kevlar deal sounds like a plan so far. the SE kit is 169... how much would it be to get the Barnett Kevlar?

You should be able to get the Barnett Kevlar Friction plates only (not the metal plates) for around $80-$90 for the Twin Cam. If you want the metal plates too, then the kit is around $140+. But, you shouldn't need the metal plates unless they are warped, etc.Alto, etc also sell good Kevlar friction plates for cheaper.

I was searching for clutch information as well to see if anyone has the speces of the friction plates. Harley's friction plates are $9 a piece, Dennis Kirk charges $60.99 for 9 generic plates which is $6.77 a piece. However!, when I got them in I put the mics on them and the mic'd at they low end of HD specs and not consistent. I can expect a little difference but one was .149? the largest was .158". That is .009". So U say WTF. Well here's WTF.... The low end of Harley Davidson friction plate wear factor is .143" So that really doesn't leave much of a wear factor to deal with. I can't find the total spec (High and Low) for them.

I was hoping some here would know that. Any takers.

Any one have any experience with slipping after engine mods? My 05 Roadking clutch slips on hard acceleration now that I have increased displacement, compression, cam lift and duration and ported heads. About 110 pounds/foot torque. I have purchased SE heavy clutch spring but haven't installed yet due to time and wondering if it will be enough. Only have 15k on bike and not riding hard now to conserve the clutch till I upgrade it.
