Anybody used SE255's without anything but a stage 1 download, slip on's and a K&N. Need just a little more power on the cheap. Don't want to beat this horse to death, but everyone seems to be doing more upgrades than I want to do right now. Found some on the cheap out of a CVO>>thought I'd give it a try while it's too cold to ride.
There are quite a few who've installed the 255's in a stock TC96 and they work very well if low-end and midrange power is your priority. I did this upgrade on my '07 and did a write-up here. You'll need to change your EFI map by either buying a tuner or getting a download from HD, as the Stage 1 download you have installed now will not be very close. I don't think they have one for a TC96 with 255's, but do for the Stage 2, and although it might be acceptable I don't think it would be a perfect match.
Fuel Moto should have a PCV map for this combo, but if you don't want to go that route I would check with your dealer for the Stage II download. Unfortunately, that will likely cost $150 or so and for $300 you could buy a real tuner with the right map installed. You could also buy SEST and have them perform a dyno-tune, but that would be the most-expensive option.
I'm going to state the obvious but something I TRULY believe in when it comes to getting your money's worth no matter how much/little you spent.
I HIGHLY recommend a dynotune by a professional with whatever tuner you feel comfortable purchasing. The downloads are OK, but you are shooting yourself in the foot by just doing a download, and besides the download is not for a 96" with cams only and trying to use a 103 download is not something I personally would recommend on a +$20K bike.
No one bike tunes the same. I recommend the PCV because if you buy the download and not happy then you spent a lot money for an outcome you are not happy with. With the PCV you get great maps and support if you buy from Fuel Moto, and you can go get a dyno without worrying about another download.
I like saving money but I wouldn't skimp on this one. Thats JMHO.
