Default SG Mileage

I just had a chat with my son, who recently took delivery of his 2010 Street Glide. He told me that he was averaging around 30 MPG, for mixed city & freeway riding. Based on his figures, that means he's down in the 20s on city streets. Even for a new motor, that seems abnormally low -- I'm getting no less than 35 MPG average on my Ultra Limited, with similar riding conditions.

I wonder what other 2010 SG riders are getting?

When I was riding my bike during break in, my fuel mileage was probably the best I've had. I was following the break in procedure so that probably explains it. His mileage seems abnormally low if that's how he's riding. It is tough to resist feeling the torque.

Yeah, the gauge is worthless, as we all know. He's also become aware of how much of a pain it is to get the new 6 gal. tanks full to the same spot each time.

Here's to that... my first fill up I experienced that same issue. Anyone got any tips for us newbies to filling this tank up? My 05 FXSTB isnt nearly as difficult.

Put a center stand on, use it while gassing up and the bike will be upright, making it easier to fill and you can get the maximum amount of fuel into the tank.

Sounds like he's pounding it more than you are.

Seriously, mileage with speeds over 70pmh sucks big time and can really affect the average mpg.

How long has he had the bike? I know when I first got mine I was getting lower mpg than I am now. But I have to admit when I first bought mine..I was off line like a bat out you know where.

He only has a few hundred on it -- still pretty new. He came from an XL-1200C, so it's possible he might be trying to duplicate the performance off the line, somewhat. Still seems abnormally low, though. More miles will tell...

Depends how he rides. As already mentioned if he likes 80+ cruising then it may explain things.

I get 34 - 40 out of my 124, so 30 from a 96 is hard to explain.
