Maybe a stupid question on my part but I didn't see any extra wiring harnesses. Did the fairing come with all the wiring needed. I believe that a RK main harness is different than a RG so how are you accomplishing that feat.
I do not have all the wiring harnesses yet. There is a cycle scrap yard I know of that does not reopen until mid march and I plan on checking with them for the harnesses to complete the job. Those things are way expensive from HD and I'm sure there are some total loss bikes out there that I can grab the wiring from.
going to be a fun project. I did the EG to RG conversion on my 04 FLHTCI back in 06 - kept it that way for two years then went back last summer - just time for a change. As stated above - Wiring harness?? actually as you know - it takes several to complete the swap IF you plan to use all RG switches and guages - I see you seem to be staying with the RK tank? are you planning on using the RG fuel guage and alt guage? At one time I even thought about playing with the change to a RK (just for fun) but did not want to mess with a fuel tank change...
have fun and take it slow..
I plan on staying with the RK tank and using the fuel gauge in the fairing. I'll just cover the top of the RK fuel gauge with an emblem like is on my fuel fill cap. As far as speedo's, I'll use the one in the handlebar pod and replace the stock speedo with a custom made plate to mount a gps on.
You can also make your own harness pretty easy especially if you use the Klock werks/autometer guages. That is the route I went with and it looked worse than it actually was to do. Just take your time to route everything properly and go for it. Plus it was alot cheaper. Good luck on your project you will love the end result, I know I do.
Well, after 2 months of working on bike on the weekends, its finally done. Took me longer to paint than I anticipated. I sprayed the color on everything and then 2nd guessed my color choice. Had this color mixed and loved it. First choice was to red, this mix has alot more yellow in it.
Over all the conversion was really easy, just time consuming.
The bad dad tank cover is a real nice piece. They give you plenty of material in the seat area to remove and make it fit the outline of your seat. The holes for the fuel gauge and fuel filler are predrilled and matched up almost perfect, just a little smaller than needed so I used a dremel tool to enlarge
I did end up filling the empty gauge holes with speakers.
