Would you go with a full size pack, chopped or razor if you had to do it again?

Just by the nature of the RG, I would think that you would want it to be detachable.

for anybody that goes the detachable route...there is a lock that you can buy that prevents anyone from stealing your tourbox.

I went with the Road King tour pak for a more minimal look. Its only used with a passenger.

Detachable becase I like to change the looks of my bike and since the ole lady bought a Super Glide in the summer I run a solo setup and it's like a different bike handling wise

I mounted mine with a rigid mount take-off I found on eBay and sold my detachable sissy bar set up. I used a scroll saw to saw off the license plate backing plate on the rigid mount. I happened on a great deal on a King Tour Pak on craigslist. I really like the size, look, and capacity of the King.

FYI, if you go with the rigid mount try to buy a take-off complete with the chrome frame rail covers. The stock covers won't work with the rigid mount like they do for detachable. The rigid mount bolts right to the frame and needs "reliefs" cut out of the frame covers. The detachable set up mounts over the top of our RG stock chrome frame covers.

To see how the Permanent Mounted Tour Pak looks, go to the Local Harley Dealer and check the Road Glide Ultra. It is solid mount. To get the solid mount, just keep an eye on eBay. There are lots of those that are for sale because they removed the Permanent mount on their Ultra and Electra Glide for the Detachable Mount. When you do, be sure to get the Chrome Covers too. They are different with the Permanent Mount from the Detachable ones.

I too, have the Detachable Tour Pak Mount. I take the Tour Pak off and inside the Motel when I take trips. Then when I get to my destination, I can take it off to ride around. And yes, I ride solo. When I have a girlfriend ride along with me, I need the Tour Pak.

Personally, I can't imagine, assuming I was adding a tour pack to a bike that doesn't already have one, not getting the removable mount. Even if I thought I'd never take it off, which "I" probably wouldn't, it's still nice to have the option should the impulse ever strike!
