How much paint will it take to paint bags, lids, rear fender and gas tank? Do you think a quart is enough?

Depends on the paint & color. Are you going with a 1 stage, 2 stage, 3 stage, enamel, laquer and so on. So more info on what you are doing may help you more.

I don't know. I'm basically painting my bags, lids, rear fender and maybe my gas tank. Never heard of stage 1, 2 and so on? Just painting them black.

You can lay on base clear which I find easier or you can try your luck with strait gloss paint.
Prep work and attention to detail is your pass or fail point. I practiced on my lawn mower before I sprayed my truck. I also learned how to water sand paint down to a dead finish & polish it back up to luster on old junk before I did bigger projects which saved a huge amount of embarrassment!
Take your time & you should do well.

The stage paints are like base coat, clear coat being a 2 stage. Enamels are 1 stage (or single stage) & the 3 stage has a transparent base that goes over the 1st step, so depending on the 1st step can change the outcome of the whole paint job similar to kandy paint. Base coat clear coat (2 stage) are easy to do & when you sand & polish, you are doing it to the clear. Enamels don't have quiet the same luster when polished.
