started the new paint job today...
sanded the front fender down yesterday. Today I hit the fender with self etching primer in the area that went through to metal(couple spots around the edges). Sanded that then applied the paint. Looks pretty darn good. Smooth even finish and a good shade of semi flat black. Gonna start the rear fender next then the tank. I decided to go cheap. I am using duplicolor engine paint. The engine paint is advertised as being gas and oil resistant. Let's hope so in case I get a drop of fuel on the tank in the future. I was going to have some paint mixed and use a prevol sprayer, then said screw it I'll just rattlecan. Should a re-coat be needed or scratch touchup, I can just grab a can and apply in the future. After a while the flattener in mixed paint starts to loose it effect according to the paint supply shop guy. I was concerned about this happening so just decided to use the rattlecan. I figure if the flattener looses it's effect, In 6 mths time If I need to touch up or anything, the paint may not match and I would end up needing to buy a new quart of the stuff to make sure it was the right shade of flat. So I will soon have a nice semi flat black painted bike. Cost of this, about 30 bucks.
oh yeah, duplicolor paint and the primer is wicked strong odor wise. I shot the paint in the garage, and I swear the odor has made it's way into the house.
