Default Paint and a surprise

Spent the morning at a local HD Dealership having the 1K service done and the passing lamps flashed to stay on with the high beams on my Limited. The only real "issue" I had was a complaint that the paint on the fender and tank had an Orange Peel effect.
I figured I would be blown off by the service dept., but to my surprise, they called the MoCo and wound up scheduling me to come in and see their paint/body guy. Apparently they need to attempt to buff it out before replacing the tins.
Looking around the showroom, several bikes had this issue to varying degrees except, it seems, for basic black.
I'll be interested to see how this ends.
Anyone with a similar experience?

I've done enough paint work over years to say that allowing them or anyone to buff OUT orange peal is Crap-buffing just takes paint off making it very thin paint left and NO clear coat over paint, orange peel is just a poor paint job........

That was my thought as well. The clear coat looks good, no runs or drips I can see. What other alternatives are there? And, if they do mess up the clear coat, will I have recourse for new tins or paint?

Hard to see orange peal in pic's, just be advised you'll regret letting them buff it (later), one thing is they have to remove fender's to buff, and the only protection for paint is that clear coat, and the in-perfection your seeing is prob 99% sure it's in paint not clear coat. so that mean's buffing OFF clear coat-wet sanding paint-and re-clear coating.
The pic's looked real decent for factory paint-remember factory paint is not a show paint job, I'll bet if you compare many bike's and ask opinion's you'll be told it look's fine.
bottom line is many people have with auto's regreted touching that factory baked paint.
Good Luck.

If its in the clear coat a lot of detailers have had success with these.

Those pads with the correct compound is worth a shot if YOU are not happy with it. For me, I don't mess with orange peel on customers cars, to much liability for me.

For a cut & buff to work well, the clear has to have some thickness to it. Typical clear coats, including Harley, don't seem to quality. Just my observation and opinion.

For the price of new H-D, the paint should be perfect. Harley is know for having pretty nice and well wearing paint. They should R & R the bad parts. The painter was right, color buffing will just remove the clear coat. The orange peel is under the clear, color buffing gets out any imperfections in the clear coat, like dust or a fish eye. Just saying....
