Okay this is kind of hard to explain typing but I'll take a shot. I am getting ready to start the bike. I turn on the dash switch and the little engine light and the red key shaped light on the speedo appear. Then they both go out. I push the start button the bike fires up and the red key shaped light on the speedo reappears and stays on for a few seconds. Also sometimes if I turn on the dash switch and the lights on the speedo go out but I dont start the engine right away the key light will reappear. Twice when this has happened I have hit the start button and nothing happens. No start, no click no nothing! BTW this is on a 2005 FLHRS with a carb. I know someone on this board will have the answers!

Almost sounds like a software problem with the security system. Does the security system work as it is supposed to.

 

Seems to be. I will check that this afternoon.

 

i too, think its a security problem. its amazing how much the crap security can affect. i had a problem with my right turn signal only and it ended up being security.

 

That does make a distorted logic since you use the turn signals to input the security code if you lose your remote.
