Default HFSM (TSSM) Please help.

I know there's a ton of info, but what I have going on I can't find an answer too. I bought the HFSM (TSSM) on the internet. I installed as follows:

Installed unit
Installed antenna
Turned bike on, started then died. I left the main switch on
10 minutes later, security key light off,
cycled main switch off then on quickly
10 minutes later, security key light off,
cycled main switch off then on quickly
10 minutes later, security key light off, cycled main switch off.

Waited 15+ seconds. Started bike, died.
Just like I had not done the events listed above.
Went through the same sequence again, same result.

I should mention that this is a slightly used unit, but hope that is not this issue. It cam with a key fob already mated to the TSSM.

Second time I went through the sequence, when I turned the bike off, the red key light came on, 5 second later, went off, flashers blinked twice.

I brought the key fob to the bike, turned bike on, everthing looks fine, red security key light goes off. I start the bike, engine dies, engine light comes on.

I checked codes, got a P1009, wrong password ( or similar), so I go though the process to pull up the password, with the key fob present.
Code is 31313.

OK, I take the key fob out of range, turn bike on, hit both blinkers, odometer comes up with 0----, with 0 blinking. I enter passwork. shows 31313 on odometer. Turn run switch to on, start bike, it dies, engine light on, code is the same.

Now, I put the old TSM back in, and don't have to remarry to the ECM.
Bike started up and ran like normal.
This tells me the sequence for the new TSSM did not complete.

This is the hands free unit, on an 08 Electraglide classic. Part numbers are right.

The thing that I notice that was unexpected is after the ten minute cycles and the security key light would go off, as soon as I cycled the main key switch off, the security light would come on, no matter how fast I switched the main switch off and on. So, I would immediately turn the switch back on, the security light would go off after a few seconds, then after a few seconds come back on. Then I would continue the process of waiting 10 minutes. Went through it twice.

It seem like the bike recognizes the hands free unit, as it will flash the blinkers, I can pull up the security code on the odometer, and when I have the fob in the area, when I turn the bike on, the security light goes out, I can start the bike, but it immediately dies and I get the wrong password DTC again.

Anybody have any idea? Did I miss a step? Is there some other trick

Default May have the answer

In review, it appears that I should have turned to main switch off then on one last time after the last 10 minute cycle, then off for 15+ seconds. Not sure I did that one. Is this possibly it?

From Service Manual to marry TSSM

Table 3-29. Setting TSM/HFSM and ECM Password
STEP ACTION CONFIRMATION NOTES
Ignition must be turned off for at least 15 seconds.
With ignition turned off, Check Engine Lamp and Security Lamp will be off.

1 Install new TSM/HFSM or ECM. Perform all steps under Section 3.3 H-DSSS ACTUATION.
2 Set RUN/OFF switch to RUN.
3 Turn IGN key ON. Verify Check Engine Lamp and Security Lamp illuminate and then turn off. TSM/HFSM enables starter relay.
4 Attempt normal start one time. Engine starts and stalls. Check Engine Lamp illuminates and stays on. Password has not been learned. ECM sets DTC P1009.
5 Wait ten seconds. Security lamp will illuminate and stay on. Security Lamp illuminates.
ECM enters Password Learning mode for ten minutes. Do not cycle ignition switch or
interrupt vehicle power or Password Learn will be unsuccessful.
6 Wait until Security Lamp turns off. This takes ten minutes.
7 Quickly (within two seconds) turn IGN key OFF-ON. ECM must not be allowed to shutdown.
8 Wait until Security Lamp turns off. This takes ten minutes.
9 Quickly (within two seconds) turn IGN key OFF-ON. ECM must not be allowed to
shutdown.
10 Wait until Security Lamp turns off. This takes ten minutes.
11 Quickly (within two seconds) turn IGN key OFF-ON. ECM must not be allowed to
shutdown.
12 Turn IGN key OFF. Wait 15 seconds before turning IGN on. Turn IGN switch ON and start engine to confirm successful Password Learn procedure. Clear DTCs.

3.3 is actuating the FOBs which you said was already done.

Default 3.3

Thanks for the info.

Looks like I missed that last off-on before the 15 second off.

I appreciate all the help.
