Default Help with Cometic Gaskets

I am in themiddle of my motor buils, and about to put my rocker boxes back on. My question is, Hillside cycles sent me a Wiseco gasket kit that contains Cometic metal rocker box and rocker box cover gaskets. the insert from Wiseco says to "use gascacinch or similar product on all copper gaskets" do I have to use the sealant, i always heard that sealant is a bad idea. Also, the raised surfaces on these gaskets face up when installing..correct? thanks guys.

Using any type of a silicone sealant is bad as it could get in to the oiling system and all it does is plug stuff up.It never disolves so I will not use it on any surface that could let it get in to the oil system. In the case of the rocker box covers for a metal gasket you can use KW Copper Coat.It has been around for many many years and I have used it many times with good results.

Take them back NOW. The metal gaskets always leak eventually, next week, next month, next year, you WILL be repalcing them. Get the red coated HD gaskets, they never leak!

I had a set of Cometic base gaskets fail on an 800cc 2-stroke Rotax triple sled motor I built. I wouldn't use them on anything again ever. I am, however, a believer in Wiseco.

Default Cometic metal rocket box gaskets, raised surface up?

Do the raised surfaces on metal gaskets face up when installing? Installing on 90 Evo.
