I put the HD lid covers on after I scratched the top of one lid that came open while sliding down an offramp. I like them. I don't have an issue with the velcro, followed the instructions, BUT they took a "minute" to stretch properly into place.
I have not taken them off, but like most "bra's", I recommend that if you put it on, don't plan on taking it off.
I've had the Lid Haulers for nearly 2 years now. I like them for long trips because they give me a handy spot to tie down my jacket when space is at a premium. I take them off to wash the bike and have seen absolutely no evidence that they're scratching, dulling, or marring the finish.
I had the Harley lid covers that use velcro and now use the Mustang covers that are slip fit.
I use the lid covers due to the paint fading on top of the bags from the sun.
Mustang lid cover is very tight once you get it on. The Harley covers are ok but I had to continually reset the velcro due to the hot humid temp.
I got the Saddleman brand with the bag that straps to the top of the cover. I used them on the trip to Sturgis. When I took them off, there was some scuffing to the tops of my saddlebags. I haven't used them since.
