Hi Richard: You didn't make any mistakes in my opinion. I have an 06 UC (Stage 1) and can say I really appreciate the machine. Just finished a 2500 km trip out through the mountains in BC and Alberta with my wife and our camping gear strapped on. Heavy heavy loaded--in fact ran across the scale just to satisfy couriosity and we weighed in at 1345 lbs. We ran all kinds of terrian and elevations in very warm conditions for that country and the bike ran like a champ. At times slow travelling behind sight seeing cars and buses and other times floating down the road at 80 mph.
As for the 07's, talked with a good friend who sells HD, who just came back from a dealer show and promotional event---his comments were, save your money, run that 06, and the day you want to spend money for more power, go for the 95 inch kit which will deliver more Hp & Torque in the end result than the 96 inch in the 07's.
Nice scoot! You deffinately will not regret it. I noticed the slash down mufflers. I have the SE slash downs. Love the sound. Do you have the stage 1 kit?
I did the same thing this week. I went to look at 2007 Ultra's and found myself drawn to the 06 vivid black ultra with Vance and Hines and stage 1 already done. Now it is sitting in my garage or at least the Fire Bay today. I have already found myself trying to shift into a missing 6 speed but I will get used to that again. Congrats.
I think your 06 is just fine. As the reviews for the 07's start to come in and we see all the bugs that need to be worked out I think we will be happy !11 But in 08,just maybe!!
