so....I've wanted a Harley my whole life.....my grandfather rode them and old Indians since he was a kid...he dressed me and my brother in jean jackets adorned with Harley patches and always showed us his old bikes and Harley trinkets he collected over the years...........I never took that much interest earlier in life.........so after taking up riding a few years ago and going through 2 Hondas....I recently was able to make the quest possible with the purchase of a new leftover 08 FLHT.........I'm at bikeweek in Daytona having the time of my life.........and after 2 days have managed to F up my new pride and joy.............first...while trying to install a very simple front fender skirt....managed to put 2 nice gouges in my fender ....after removing it from the trailer there was a string of black marks accross the derby cover chrome.........AND....after getting back from riding the other day...discovered some kind of much globbed on my exhaust that was melted on there.....I can't believe it...3 f'n things in like 2 days....tried few things on the exhaust and derby cover with no luck...no one stocks the touch up paint..guess will have to get it when I get home....need a shoulder to cry on I guess...lol
Stop crying! and writting about it on the internet. Man up.
I don't think your grandpa ever cried. (except when he spilled his beer).
Hey, I doubt there are any tears, Probably more like a knot in his stomach. No matter how "Manly" we are, we do need a 'bro to yell at because of our misfortune! (Just like when the wife only wants you to "Listen",,, and we never understand that!)
NJ, I would simply try to enjoy the rest of your trip. (Maybe try to clean the pipes and derby cover,, ya don't want a filthy bike there) Is it a tar like substance? (Open trailer?) Will no automotive type cleaner touch it?
No matter what try to enjoy your self there. Wish I was there.
Dude...ride the bike, have some fun, ride some more, figure out what you want to change, party some more, go ride again.
Thengo home look, at what went wrong in the trailer and fix.
Then, go get you a service manual and fix up all the stuff you screwed up and get the bike ready for Biketoberfest!!!
Ride safe
At least you're in Daytona. You could be stuck in the frozen north. I've found a bunch of stuff for getting junk off the chrome. Try Brake or carb cleaner both work pretty well in conjunction with a cotton rag. Never Dull works but don't rub too hard it can scratch the chrome. Rub a little on let it work for 5-10 minutes then come back and try to lightly bub it off. Never Dull will also remover rust from chrome. Automotive bug and tar remover. Oven cleaner (don't get it on the paint or powder coat).
