Default shift linkage install question...

I put on a new Bar & Shield shift linkage today and it looks great. I tried to install it per the instructions but the bolt head was hitting on the front cylinder cooling fins. I ended up putting the joint on the outside instead of the inside of the shift rod. Common problem?

Common. Everyone says the same as you found.

If you reverse the bolt and get a chrome acorn nut you should be able to put it on the inside. I assume it has the heim joints on it. Also you may want to replace the allen head bolt on the trans. lever to a reg hex bolt so that you can tighten it up, had friend's 08 fall off.

This one came with a hex bolt for the tranny lever.

Just seems really out of alignment as it is, I might have to find a new nut/bolt combo that allows me to get in back to the insde where it belongs.

Not exactly sure what the OP is saying but....the front end of the linkage does go on the outside....not sure of the problem here.

Post a pic of yours. I put one on mine (see my photo album), and the front was no problem at all, but I had to jury-rig the back side to make it work.

Interesting......this was probably the easiest HD part to install.

No problems front or rear. Not saying anything bad about anyone here.

But with this part if you get the proper part for your model yr. it should be a breeze.

I had to do the same with my 10 RG and haven't had any problems yet. Didn't have that problem with my last bike (07 RK) so I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the new frame.

Mine is an '07, so no new frame for me. Maybe I didn't understand the directions, I could have sworn that the linkage was supposed to be on the inside. No worries either way I guess.
