So i need to put new rubber on the ultra. Does anyone know who has the New American E3's in stock? I have looked at a few places but no luck. Anyone bought any of these yet?
I contacted several...jpcycles, sport tour, dennis kirk....and all of them told me they are on back order. JP and Sport Tour told me their status says September 2011.
I gave up and started looking for car tires....couldn't find one to fit the 5 inch rim.
Ended up ordering a new D407 from Latus HD. Was $195 plus $5 handling fee. Free shipping. Total was 200. Hopefully by the time I wear this one out something else will be out.
There are three new tires in our 180 65B 16 size but none are available yet. So keep checking for them.
1) Dunlop American Elite
2) Metzler ME880
3) Avon Cobra
It's actually not an E3. It's the new Dunlop line called "American Elite". Guess they brought it out at the Cincinatti show. Looks like marketing got out ahead of distribution or manufacturing on this one.
Anyways, from what limited info I have found, supposedly this is a dual compound tire (like stock 09+) only built by Dunlop specs....not MOCO's. Supposed to get better traction and longevity. We'll see when they finally start shipping.
Anyway, the Dunlop E3 does not have a 180 65B 16 for the 09+ touring models. The American Elite does.
Ok here's the deal i emailed Dunlop today and this is what they had to say
Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding the Dunlop American
Elite tire model. We hope to be able to bring this new tire model to the
market sometime during the summer of 2010. We'll be happy to send a
motorcycle tire product brochure out with today's mail. so i guess we have to wait a little longer!
If I remember correctly it was said that Harley and Dunlop had a contract for two years that they wouldn't make a tire available to the public other than the 407/408. Every place i've contacted about the american elite say sometime late august early september, now that would be about the right time for that contract to expire seeing as how I got my 09SG in august of 08. I bet Dunlop has a warehouse full of these just waiting on the contract to expire.

The 180/65-16 isn't available yet but the E3 in 180/60-16 and 180/70-16 are available. The difference is imperceptible, a couple millimeters at the most.
