Default Inner Primary Cover Install--HELP!!!

I have a 2007 CVO Ultra with the stock exhaust system. Today I received the H-D chrome inner primary cover (part # 60869-10) that I orderd and attempted to put it on my bike. I followed the installation instructions to the letter, but for the life of me I can't get the thing to fit. The rear exhaust pipe is too close to the engine for the rear piece to fit under it as the instructions show. Do I have to remove the rear pipe to get this thing on? There is no mention of removing the exhaust in the instructions. Has anyone else had this problem with this part, and if so, do you have any tricks I can use to get it installed? Thanks in advance.

Drop the left muffler. Behind the rear jug is where the left side connects. You will see a large torca clamp underneath the heat shield and is attached to the exhaust bracket at the starter. Loosen it and pull it off the mount. Spray something like WD-40 in the joint. You may/probably will have to remove the heat shield. Rotate the pipe once the WD-40 soaks the joint. Rotate it enough to put the cover on. Reinstall everything.

Read the wrong part number. Concur with the other posts - I would at least loosen the exhaust.

Damn, this sounds like a whole afternoon job! I bought this POS on the basis of the assertion made by Harley on their website that they were "easy-to-install". They should have said easy-to-install "unless you have a 2007 or 2008, in which case you will have to remove the rear exhaust pipe and muffler."

Not really a whole afternoon job, should only take about 20 minutes tops to install the cover and to finagle the rear pipe, including removing the shield.

How about you taking a trip from Vermont down to Charlotte and while you're here, swing by my house and spend 20 minutes in my garage. LOL.

Been meaning to get to NC anyhow! Seriously, it's not that bad of a job. Heck, I've been messing around in my primary the past couple of days and I don't think it's taking me more than 20 minutes to remove the rear of the rider footboard bracket, the passenger footboard bracket (to include the Kury adjustable pegs) and remove the primary cover. All you got to do is a few stinking screws on a heat shield, two torca clamps and two bolts on your muffler! haha

I agree with you, Dawg, but it's a heck of a lot longer than to just put the part on without removing the muffler and exhaust pipe. What galds me is that there was no mention of doing that in the installation instructions or on the H-D website. If you have to remove them, then I would have rather bought the part made for the 2009 and later models (PN 60885-10) that is a one-piece design. I thought the objective of the two-piece design was to allow for the left exhaust pipe on the 2007 and 2008 models. I'm not disputing you; I just think H-D screwed up the instructions. Thanks for your reply and ride safe.
