Exactly the right question, want to bump this up so we can get a clear answer on this.

Are you sure the Iphone is not simply located close enough to your mouth when you are talking (eg on your tank)?

I don't mean to doubt you, I am just really surprised this works in the way described

I don't think the 'AUX port' is two-way. If it were this easy, I don't think any vendors would be selling very many cell phone integration kits.

I know that when I connect the iphone to the aux port in my car to listen to music, when a call comes in the music stops playing and i hear the iphone ringing over the car speakers, and when i answer i hear the caller talking over the car speakers. Which I would expect and it makes sense to me....so if that is what is happening on the motorcyle that might be all you are getting is the output from the iphone over the speakers.

Also, what is and advanced radio? Is that really just meaning a radio that has that aux port to accept an MP3 player?

The Aux port is for output through the speakers...in order to talk you need a bluetooth set up. iPhones, Blackberrys and almost any phone today has the ability for speech thru a bluetooth headset. The phone via the radio will only notify you that a call is incoming, it is then up to you to engage your bluetooth headset to answer the call.

Additionally, as far as the battery life is concerned when just using the iPod portion of the iPhone it will last a long time. If you are using a GPS positioning app or directional that is trying to use 3G service at the same time, good luck getting more that 2 hours of battery life out of it.

I'd like that Radio Shack part number also. even if it doesn't work the way it says, it's $5 cheaper than the iPhone cord from Wally world.

Ok,,,a quick ride down to RS and I grabbed one of these. RS part # 42-223 , I don't know if it's the same one as in the first post but for $7 I can listen to my Iphone tunes through the cd port on my '02's radio and when I call it, the speakers do play the ring tone. I don't have a head set (yet) to try out the talk function. I only bought the 3' cord as I didn't want anything longer. I did notice on the plug that it has 2 black bands on instead of the normal 1 black band so I'm hoping it will work once I have the headsets.

Disclaimer, I agree about the bike is the escape from the phone and don't plan on using it to chat but if a call comes in I need to take, I can hit the answer button and tell the caller that I will call them back in a few minutes once I'm safely off the road.

Not the same if what the OP says is correct, that is only a stereo cord (if pic is correct) so can't carry vox anyway

I have the Iphone mounted to the handlebars with a ram-mount and charge the phone from the Cigarette lighter and listen to music and GPS turn by turn by pluging a cable to the audio out to the AUX input. When a call comes in the music goes down and you can see that you have a call. The only way to talk that I know of in this arrangement is back through the Iphone mic. Not going to work too well traveling down the road. However, I have the Nolan helmet with bluetooth headset that can be paired with the Iphone. This is the only way I know that it would be possible to make and receive calls - but why? I like to listen to tunes but if I need to talk on the phone I'll wait til I can pull over and stop. I also have the "Navigon" software loaded on the Iphone and it works great. Takes a few minutes to load and find yor position but ones it does, it's spot on. Also works with the Ipod functions - turns down tthe music for turn by turn.

That's what I figured but at least the thread motivated me to get off my *** and go buy a cord. Lol

Ok, My headsets got here today (thanks site sponsor IMC ) and I went out to the garage to play with them. I get the same effect as stated before. I can hear the phone ringing (kinda funny as I make my own ring tones and I use rock songs for ring tones) and can answer and hear the caller but cannot transmit. I'm thinking it's only on the newer style radios. That cord I picked up at RS is a stereo cord (3wire) so it is the one the OP mentioned.
Seems like a good way to ignore the ex if she decides to call while I'm out on the bike. I'm sure folks beside me at a light would bust up laughing at the ring tone I made for her.
