Howdy guys and gals, there I was waiting for the brown truck today, finally recieved my road zeppelin seat 51072-09, guess what bad from stock, sucks, called up the dealer i got it from, they are sending UPS back out to get it and send me another, oh well another week, but still have a bike and will ride that what counts....just venting, crap happens.
Man, I took the seat out of the box and right away it felt like the compressor was flopping around in its compartment, so I hooked it up, and ran it and it sounded like a bucket of bolts, very noisy, my take is the compressor is not tied down and vibrating inside the seat, so Im sending it back and the dealer, Brandon Harley, in Tampa is sending another.
As others have asked, what was wrong with the seat?
Hopefully the replacement will make ya happy.
I know I like mine and am anxiously awaiting the time when I can actually ride more then 100 - 150 miles without running out of day / weather good enough for an extended ride (freakin weather here in CO has been a real PITA this winter!).
I did notice, underneath the seat directly under the passenger pillion, is where the compressor is, there is some slots there I think for tie straps to secure the compressor to the seat and keep it from vibrating around, those tie starps were cut, I found pieces of them falling out, plus the box did not look like it was factory sealed, maybe they tried to slide a display seat my way I dont know but they are being cool about it, so far cant wait to try it out...
The weak link of the Road Zep is the compressor mount. The slots you referred to were where two zip-ties, yes, zip-ties were used to mount it. We spent 2 months fighting with H-D and the Zep seat manufacturer as they bounced blame back and forth. Then, it happened again. And apparantly to you too. We finally filed it as a UPS concealed damage claim.
Sorry. It wasn't supposed to be this way.
The Zep seat is awesome. The compressor has to float. Seems they just can't find a zip-tie to survive UPS's punishment. Believe it or not, once installed it stops being an issue.
