OAKLAND — A 35-year old motorcyclist and his 8-year-old daughter, who was a passenger on the back of the bike, were injured Thursday afternoon when their cycle was hit by a minivan in Oakland's Laurel District, police said.
The motorcyclist, Christopher Pasqini of Oakland, was taken to Highland Hospital and is listed in critical condition. His daughter's condition is unknown. She's reportedly stable at Children's Hospital, Oakland. Her name was not released.
The collision happened about 3:07 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of 35th Avenue and California Street, said traffic Officer Greg Bellusa. The Harley-Davidson motorocyle was apparently headed north on 35th Avenue when a Honda Odyssey minivan driven by a 38-year-old Oakland man, with three children as passengers, entered the intersection at California Street, attempting to make a left turn, and collided with the motorcycle.
Pasqini and his daughter were thrown from the bike into the street and were non-responsive when paramedics arrived. The girl regained consciousness at the scene before being taken to the hospital. Both were wearing helmets, Bellusa said.
No one in the minivan was injured. The driver remained on the scene for police to arrive. He was described as "very cooperative," Bellusa said. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Oakland police at (510) 777-8570.
